The President of Poland addressed Zelensky
About this is reported by the Polish broadcaster RMF 24 website.
The statement was made on July 11 during a ceremony honoring the victims of the Volyn Tragedy in Helma. In his speech, Nawrótcki addressed Zelensky and the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, who was present at the event.
"Mr. Ambassador, as the newly elected president, I would like to officially address your Excellency and President Zelensky regarding the possibility of conducting large-scale exhumations in Volyn. Poles are waiting for this truth... and Volyn families still suffer from the trauma that occurred 82 years ago," he said.
According to the newly elected president, this is necessary for Poland and Ukraine to "truly reconcile" and "through the truth".
"We must openly discuss this history. Of course, call a crime a crime. We must apologize, but we also need to honor the memory of those victims who need it, on both sides of the border," he said.
Bodnar reminded that recently exhumation work was carried out in Puzhnyky in Ternopil region, work is to be conducted in Zboiszcze in Lviv, and permits are also expected for work in Uhla, Huta Pieniacka, and other places requested by the Polish side. He emphasized that dialogue between Polish and Ukrainian experts and historians is also necessary. According to Bodnar, the Ukrainian side is open to dialogue.
