The Verkhovna Rada has dismissed Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal
The dismissal of Shmyhal means that his entire government automatically resigns. The resignation of the Ukrainian Prime Minister was supported by 261 deputies' votes out of the 226 required.
Shmyhal's five-year term as head of government was the longest among all Ukrainian prime ministers since Ukraine's independence.
Before the vote, Shmyhal delivered a speech in which he thanked the parliament, the Cabinet, and other branches of government for fruitful cooperation over many years. The head of government also spoke about the main achievements during his tenure.
According to media reports, it is expected that the parliament's vote on the appointment of the new Ukrainian government will take place on July 17.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed that Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko lead the Ukrainian government, and that Dmytro Shmyhal be appointed Minister of Defense, stating that his experience "will definitely be useful" in this position.
