Russia has begun protecting submarines with anti-drone nets 7,400 km from Ukraine
Serhiy Sternenko, an adviser to the Ministry of Defence, reported this on Telegram.
What was seen in the satellite images
Images of the Rybachy naval base on the Kamchatka Peninsula show anti-drone nets positioned over at least two nuclear submarines. These are Borei-class and Borei-A-class submarines.
This base is the main home port for the Russian Pacific Fleet’s nuclear submarines. From there, the submarines set off on long-term combat patrols in the Pacific Ocean.
What these submarines carry
Each Borei-class and Borei-A-class submarine is armed with 16 RSM-56 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles. The base also hosts submarines equipped with cruise missiles.
As a reminder, on 13 May, Ukrainian drones attacked the Astrakhan gas processing plant near the Caspian Sea – 1,675 km from the border. The Russians claimed to have “shot down all the drones”, but acknowledged a fire on the plant’s premises caused by debris.
Meanwhile, one of Russia’s largest oil refineries – Lukoil-Permnaftorgsintez – has completely halted oil processing following a series of Ukrainian strikes. According to industry sources, repairs could take several weeks.
