On the first day of 2026, Russian troops attacked Ukraine's railway infrastructure in several regions. This was announced by Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba.

According to him, the impacts were recorded from Odesa region to Sumy and Volyn. In Kovel, the buildings of the locomotive depot were damaged, and about seven enemy drone strikes were recorded on the territory. In Konotop, the Russian army attacked a railway station, damaging freight cars

Kuleba also reported on strikes by Shahed drones on the logistics infrastructure of Odesa region. The threat of repeated attacks remains there, which complicates the recovery work

The consequences of the shelling are being repaired by Ukrzaliznytsia repair teams. Despite the damage to the facilities, passenger and freight trains continue to run as scheduled and have not been suspended
