Russians struck the university
On the night of August 18, Russian drones attacked Sumy. As a result of the strike, a non-residential building was almost completely destroyed, the facade was damaged, and windows were shattered; initially, there are no casualties.
This was reported by Acting Mayor of Sumy Artem Kobzar on Monday. In Sumy region, a air raid alert was announced overnight due to the threat of strike UAVs. Around 3 a.m., several explosions were heard in the city. According to local media, drones struck civilian infrastructure, including Sumy State University.
Later, it became known that one of the university buildings was destroyed as a result of the attack, and a fire broke out, which was extinguished by morning. Initially, there are no casualties; information about the injured is being clarified.
Kobzar noted that specialists from the State Emergency Service and relevant city council units are involved in emergency recovery work.
In the State Emergency Service confirmed that the buildings of one of the city's higher education institutions were damaged in the regional center. A large fire broke out. Due to the threat of repeated strikes, rescuers temporarily suspended work. All hotspots have been extinguished.
