Execution of the head of the village council in Crimea: police detained the suspect 13 years later
The National Police of Ukraine reported the arrest of a suspect in the murder of the head of the Simeiz Village Council, which took place in 2013 in Crimea. According to the investigation, the crime was intentional and premeditated and was carried out with the use of firearms.
That year, an unidentified person fired targeted shots at the official's car near the administrative building of the village council. The victim died on the spot from his injuries. After the attack, the perpetrator attempted to destroy the evidence. During the inspection of the scene, law enforcement officers found a burned car with a weapon inside, which was used to carry out the shooting. According to the investigation, this indicated the planned nature of the crime.
During the pre-trial investigation, police established the attacker's escape route and obtained his image. The evidence gathered made it possible to identify the person reasonably suspected of committing a particularly serious crime. The suspect is a native of the Lviv region, born in 1979, with multiple convictions.
After the criminal proceedings were resumed, investigators and operatives, with the support of the KORD special unit, carried out a series of measures and detained the suspect in Lviv in accordance with the procedure provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code. Currently, a notice of suspicion is being prepared for him on the fact of intentional murder committed under aggravating circumstances. Authorised searches are also being conducted at the detainee's place of residence.
The investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are deciding on a preventive measure.
