Mark Rubio: The US contacted representatives of the Russian Federation this week regarding the cessation of the war

U.S. Secretary of State Blinken stated that Washington contacted Russian officials this week regarding ending the war, but no progress is visible.

«We continue to interact with the Russian side – earlier this week, on Monday or Tuesday. We also had a conversation with them – not with Putin, but with some of Putin's highest officials – in the hope of reaching some understanding about the way forward that would lead to peace, and we saw no progress on this issue», – he said in an interview with Fox News Radio.

According to him, the U.S. president has many options.

«I mean, he has options, as everyone knows, to impose secondary sanctions on the sale of Russian oil, which constitutes a huge part of their income… But the best way forward is to stop shooting and start talks. But so far, there has been no sincere interest from the Russian side in achieving this goal», – added Rubio.
