The SSU has detained an FSB agent who was passing on information about the movements of Ukrzaliznytsia trains
The Military Counter-Intelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained an FSB agent in Volyn who was monitoring the timetables and routes of Ukrzaliznytsia freight trains.
According to the investigation, the Russian military planned to use this data to prepare air strikes aimed at disrupting the logistics of the Defence Forces.
Law enforcement officers established that the task was carried out by an unemployed resident of Poltava, who was recruited via Telegram channels where he was looking for opportunities to earn money.
After being recruited, the man travelled to the Volyn region and settled in a rented flat near a railway station.
In his flat, he placed a phone with a camera on the windowsill and set up a live feed for the Russian security services.
Using this camera, the FSB attempted to determine the arrival times of trains in order to launch a targeted strike against them.
SBU officers documented the agent’s activities and detained him.
During a search, several smartphones were seized from him, which he had used to communicate with the FSB and track train movements.
The investigation also established that in the Poltava region, he had been tracking the locations of mobile fire units belonging to the Defence Forces.
To communicate with his handler, the agent used an anonymous chat in a messaging app, where pre-agreed code words and icons were used.
Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine informed the detainee that he was suspected of an offence under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding treason during a state of martial law.
The suspect is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operational measures were carried out by SSU officers in the Poltava region under the procedural guidance of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
