On the night of 15 December, the Ukrainian military struck a strategic facility of the Russian oil and gas industry that produces raw materials for explosives

On the night of 15 December, the Ukrainian Defence Forces, in cooperation with the Special Operations Forces and the Unmanned Systems Forces, struck the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant located near the Caspian Sea. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The aim of the strike was to reduce Russia's ability to produce explosives for the military-industrial complex. The Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is one of the key enterprises in Russia's oil and gas industry and annually produces up to 3.5 million tonnes of sulphur, which is used to make explosives.

According to the General Staff, explosions and a large-scale fire were recorded on the territory of the plant. The extent of the damage and losses is currently being clarified. The company is owned by Gazprom and is of strategic importance for the Russian economy and defence industry.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces stressed that such strikes are part of systematic actions to undermine the offensive potential of the Russian Federation and are aimed at forcing the aggressor to end the war against Ukraine.
