Shmyhal announced a simultaneous emergency shutdown between the power grids of Ukraine, Romania and Moldova
In the morning, there was a technical disruption in the power systems of Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova, which led to the simultaneous shutdown of a number of power grids. This was reported by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the incident was recorded at 10:42 a.m. At that time, a 400-kilovolt (kV) power line between the power systems of Romania and Moldova, as well as a 750-kV line connecting the western and central parts of Ukraine, were simultaneously shut down. This caused a cascade shutdown in the Ukrainian power grid and triggered automatic protection systems at substations. As a result, the power units of nuclear power plants were unloaded.
Due to the accident, dispatchers introduced special emergency shutdown schedules in Kyiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that specialists from the national electricity transmission system operator Ukrenergo are already working to eliminate the consequences of the disruption. According to him, electricity supply in the regions should be restored within the next few hours.
