The US is in talks with Denmark over new military facilities in Greenland — BBC
The BBC reports this, citing sources.
According to those briefed, the plan involves the creation of three new military bases in southern Greenland. The White House states that negotiations are moving ‘in the right direction’, and the administration is optimistic.
Sources claim that the US is proposing an arrangement whereby the new facilities could be granted separate legal status under an agreement with Denmark and Greenland. They intend to locate them on existing infrastructure, specifically at airfields and ports.
The main aim of the project is to strengthen surveillance of sea routes in the area between Greenland, Iceland and the UK, which, according to US assessments, could be used by Russia and China.
The US already has one permanent military base in Greenland – the Pituffik Space Station, which is home to approximately 150 military personnel. However, no final agreements have yet been reached between the parties regarding the new bases.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that in January 2026, Denmark sent explosives and blood supplies to Greenland — preparing for a US invasion.
