The US has set the deadline for the ceasefire with Iran as 26 April
Israel has officially confirmed that the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran expires on Sunday, 26 April. This was reported by the public media corporation Kan, citing a diplomatic source, according to Isranews.
According to the publication’s source, US President Donald Trump intends to reach long-term agreements with Iran, “rather than simply holding talks”. At the same time, Israeli sources are sceptical about the likelihood of success for the upcoming meeting in Islamabad. In their view, it is unlikely that the parties will reach an agreement by Sunday, given a certain “chaos in the Americans’ behaviour”.
“Lately, we have only been learning about Trump’s actions from the news and his social media,” said Israeli diplomats.
A White House representative confirmed to Fox News that the ceasefire had been extended by three to five days. At the same time, an Israeli source claims that the situation remains unclear and largely depends on Trump’s temperament.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has issued an ultimatum to the US. According to him, a full ceasefire is possible only on the basis of mutual respect and without economic restrictions. He cited the complete lifting of the American naval blockade of Iranian ports as the main condition.
“A ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by a naval blockade and if the global economy is not held hostage. The resumption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is impossible amid a gross violation of the ceasefire. They have not achieved their goals through military aggression, nor will they achieve them through hooliganism. The only way forward is to recognise the rights of the Iranian people,” he wrote on the social media platform “X”.
It is also noted that the third American aircraft carrier, the ‘George Bush’, will arrive off the coast of Iran within the next three to five days. The report states that this confirms information received by Israel that the new deadline set by the US for Iran expires this Sunday.
