США завдали нового удару по російській економіці: під санкціями Роснефть і Лукойл
During his second term, President Donald Trump made the decision to impose new large-scale sanctions against Russia. The restrictions targeted the country's two largest oil companies — "Rosneft" and "Lukoil," as well as a number of their subsidiaries.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury stated that the sanctions were introduced due to "Russia's lack of a serious approach to the peace process." In terms of scale, these are some of the most painful restrictions Washington has applied against Moscow since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, – reports The Public.
“Every time I talk with Vladimir, we have a good conversation. But then it goes nowhere. These are very strong sanctions, but we hope they won't last long. The war needs to be resolved”, – said Trump.
The President also confirmed that the planned meeting with Putin in Budapest has been canceled, as “achieving results seems unlikely.” Instead, he is preparing for negotiations with China's leader Xi Jinping – among the topics of the meeting will be the possibility of Beijing's participation in ending the war.
Positive signals from Congress
The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee supported three important bills related to Ukraine:
- Recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism — due to the deportation of Ukrainian children.
- Use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's benefit.
- Sanctions against Chinese companies supplying dual-use goods to Russia.
All documents have bipartisan support and will be put to a vote after the shutdown ends.
The issue of armaments remains open
Trump separately mentioned the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, noting that “these are complex systems that require long-term training.”
At the same time, analysts point out that such arguments have been heard before — when it came to transferring Javelin, HIMARS, Patriot, and F-16 to Ukraine, which are subsequently successfully used on the front.
