Terrorist attack in Lviv: 12 victims remain in hospital, two in critical condition
As of 18:30, 12 people who were injured during the terrorist attack on 22 February remain in medical facilities in Lviv. Two of them are in very serious condition. This was reported by the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi.
According to him, among the victims are officers who responded to the call, as well as a teenager who lives near the scene. Sadovyi stressed that this was not a domestic conflict, but a planned hostile special operation aimed at targeting law enforcement officers.
On the morning of 22 February, 20 people with injuries of varying severity were hospitalised. According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, a total of 25 people were injured. A 23-year-old police officer, Viktoria Shpylka, was killed in the explosions.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the explosions occurred after patrol police arrived at the scene. The 102 hotline received information about two unknown individuals in dark clothing who damaged the blinds and broke the lock on the shop door, after which they entered the premises. When the police arrived at the scene, the explosions occurred.
According to preliminary data, homemade explosive devices placed in rubbish bins detonated. CCTV cameras recorded the moment when the explosives were likely planted.
According to Ihor Klymenko, among the injured were employees of the National Police of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine, who were ensuring public order, as well as civilians.
Law enforcement officers detained a woman who may be involved in organising the explosions. She was found in one of the district centres of the Lviv region, near the town of Staryi Sambir. The detainee is a 33-year-old resident of the Rivne region.
According to the investigation, she made homemade explosive devices and installed them in predetermined locations. It has been preliminarily established that she acted on the instructions of a "curator" from the special services of the Russian Federation.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — a terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person, as well as under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosive substances. The most severe penalty is life imprisonment.
