In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, fighters from the ‘Strix’ unmanned systems unit of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine destroyed a Russian ‘Skat 450M’ reconnaissance drone.

The State Border Guard Service noted that this is the second aircraft of this type to be shot down by the unit. According to border guards, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have shot down no more than 20 such drones since the start of the full-scale war.

During combat operations, operators of the “Strix” UAV unit, part of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, detected and destroyed an enemy reconnaissance drone that was being used for long-range aerial reconnaissance and fire correction.

The State Border Guard Service emphasised that the ‘Skat 450M’ is one of the enemy’s key platforms for carrying out such tasks.

The estimated cost of the drone is around 400,000 US dollars. The loss of such a vehicle is a significant blow to Russian forces.

The agency stressed that the destruction of such drones deprives the enemy of the ability to conduct reconnaissance at significant depths and complicates the guidance of weapons.

The State Border Guard Service also noted that the destruction of two ‘Skat 450M’ systems simultaneously by a single unit is a unique occurrence and demonstrates the effectiveness of the air defence operators.

Border guards continue to monitor the airspace and detect enemy aerial targets.
