The US and Israel are drawing up options for action regarding Iran
This is reported by Glavkom, citing The New York Times.
Trump did not back Tehran’s proposal
According to the publication, Donald Trump reviewed Iran’s latest proposal for resolving the conflict upon his return from China and refused to back it.
“I looked at it, and if I don’t like the first sentence — I just throw it out,” the US president told reporters on board Air Force One.
Following this, American and Israeli officials returned to discussing military scenarios in the event of a complete breakdown in diplomatic contacts.
The Pentagon is considering several options
Among the possible steps reported by The New York Times are large-scale air strikes on Iran’s military infrastructure, a temporary blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and a special operation at a nuclear facility in Isfahan. A separate option under consideration involves deploying special operations forces to destroy or seize stocks of enriched uranium. The US military acknowledges that such a scenario carries high risks. US Defence Secretary Pete Hagset confirmed during congressional hearings that Washington has a contingency plan in place in the event of further escalation. At the same time, the Pentagon does not rule out the opposite scenario — a reduction in military presence in the region and a return to the negotiating table.
Iran declares readiness to respond
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the Iranian military is ready to respond to any actions by the US or its allies. According to The New York Times, there are currently over 50,000 US troops, two aircraft carriers and dozens of fighter jets in the region. Against this backdrop, human rights activists report an increase in the number of executions in Iran. According to their data, those detained following anti-government protests are being subjected to repression.
