The US Department of Justice has barred the Internal Revenue Service from conducting audits of the Trump family
The document was signed by Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche, according to Reuters.
It states that the US government cannot audit Donald Trump’s tax returns filed up to Monday, nor can it consider issues that ‘have been or may have been raised’.
The decision expands the terms of the settlement agreement that Donald Trump reached with the US Internal Revenue Service on 19 May. As part of the agreement, Trump agreed to withdraw a $10 billion lawsuit over the leak of his tax returns.
Also as part of the agreement, the Department of Justice has set up a fund of nearly $1.8 billion to compensate victims of political ‘weaponisation’.
On 19 May, Todd Blanche made his first appearance before the US Congress following his appointment as Acting Attorney General. During the hearings, he was asked a series of questions regarding the creation of this fund.
