The US has launched fresh strikes against Iran near the Strait of Hormuz
The US military carried out fresh strikes on Iran overnight. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters about this.
According to him, the target was an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas. The agency’s source stated that preparations were underway at this facility to launch another drone.
US forces also shot down four Iranian attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz. The US stated that the drones posed a threat to the region.
These strikes took place against the backdrop of negotiations to end the war, which has been ongoing for three months. The conflict began on 28 February following strikes by the US and Israel.
An American official stated that the US actions were “measured, purely defensive and aimed at supporting the ceasefire”.
US President Donald Trump had previously dismissed reports by Iranian state media alleging that Iran and Oman were jointly managing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace agreement. According to Trump, the strait would remain open.
Reuters also notes that the US last carried out strikes against Iran on Monday. Tehran described this as a violation of the fragile ceasefire.
According to the US Central Command, the previous strikes targeted boats attempting to lay mines, as well as missile launchers posing a threat to US forces.
