Trump intends to hold a meeting with Putin next week
According to the publication, he plans to hold a meeting soon after between himself, Putin, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. No European leader will be involved. It is unclear whether Zelensky or Putin agreed.
European leaders, it seems, have accepted what Trump said, a source familiar with the conversation said.
The phone call also involved the leader of Great Britain, the Chancellor of Germany, and the NATO Secretary General, as well as Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump's special envoy Steve Vitkoff.
The meeting of the U.S. President's special envoy Steve Vitkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place a day before Trump's ultimatum, which demands Russia to ceasefire with Ukraine by August 8. Otherwise, the U.S. president promises to impose 100% tariffs on imports to the U.S. from Russia and its trading partners.
After this meeting, Donald Trump announced the achievement of "significant progress".
"Vitkoff had a very productive meeting with Putin, and significant progress was made. Everyone agrees that this war must end, and we will work on this in the coming days and weeks," he wrote on Truth Social.
