Trump made a series of statements before the meeting with Putin
This is reported by CNN.
Trump stated that currently Putin is inclined to reach an agreement.
I believe that now he is convinced of the need to make a deal. He will make it. I think he will do it, and we will find out,” — said the American president, emphasizing that he sees the Kremlin's readiness to compromise.
At the same time, Trump openly admitted that he is not confident in the effectiveness of the upcoming negotiations.
“There is a 25% chance that this meeting will not be successful,” — he emphasized, commenting on the prospects of reaching a ceasefire after the summit.
After talks with Putin, Trump plans to call the President of Ukraine to coordinate a second meeting.
“I have three options for the venue,” — he said, adding that the final decision will depend on the outcomes of the Alaska summit. The American president clarified that further negotiations could also concern territorial issues. “There will be discussions about borders, lands, and other similar topics,” — he noted, emphasizing that he does not intend to conduct these negotiations on behalf of the Ukrainian or Russian leadership.
Earlier, it was reported that a Russian government plane Il-96-300 of the special unit “Russia” took off from Vnukovo Airport in Moscow and headed towards Anchorage — a city in American Alaska, where high-level negotiations are scheduled.
It should be noted that U.S. President Donald Trump insisted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not be present at the negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, which are to take place in Alaska. The reason — concerns that Zelensky’s presence could derail dialogue with the Kremlin.
