Trump announced the extension of the naval blockade of Iran until an agreement is reached
US President Donald Trump has stated that the American blockade of ships entering or leaving Iranian ports will remain in place until a peace agreement is reached with Iran.
The White House chief wrote this on social media platform X.
According to Trump, negotiations with Tehran are proceeding ‘in an orderly and constructive manner’. He also stated that he had instructed US representatives not to rush into concluding an agreement.
“The blockade will remain in place until an agreement has been reached, verified and signed. Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes,” wrote the US President.
Trump also stated that relations between Washington and Tehran are becoming “much more professional and productive”.
Separately, the US president emphasised that Iran “cannot develop or acquire a nuclear weapon or bomb”.
Furthermore, Trump criticised the nuclear deal with Iran, concluded during Barack Obama’s presidency. He called it “the worst deal in US history” and stated that it was “a direct path to Iran developing nuclear weapons”.
Trump also thanked the countries of the Middle East for their cooperation and support and stated that their interaction with the US would be strengthened through participation in the Abraham Accords.
The Abraham Accords were initiated during Trump’s first presidential term. Under the agreements, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco recognised Israel’s statehood and normalised relations with it.
The US President also suggested that Iran might join the Abraham Accords in the future.
