A man suspected of robbing a soldier following a dispute is to stand trial in Kyiv
This was reported by the Kyiv police.
At the end of March, the police received a report that a man had damaged a soldier’s car and robbed him right on the road.
According to the investigation, whilst driving on the carriageway, the man’s BMW ‘performed a dangerous manoeuvre’ and ‘cut off’ the soldier, who was driving in the adjacent lane.
Then, during a subsequent altercation at a traffic light, the suspect smashed the soldier’s car mirror with his fist, threatened him with violence and took his phone, which he then threw into a wooded area.
Law enforcement officers detained the 51-year-old man and informed him that he was suspected of offences under Part 1 of Article 296 (hooliganism) and Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery committed under martial law). Investigators have referred the case to court; the man faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
As a reminder, the SBU previously uncovered two schemes to evade mobilisation in Kyiv.
