Parades on 9 May are being cancelled en masse across Russia: a list of regions
The 9 May parade in Russia
A number of regions in Russia and the occupied territories have announced the cancellation of parades on 9 May, as well as the introduction of additional restrictions on the celebrations.

This has been reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel.

Where the parades have been cancelled

According to published information, at least 15 regions of the Russian Federation have completely abandoned plans to hold parades on 9 May.

These include the Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Ryazan, Kaluga, Oryol, Pskov, Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod and Leningrad regions, as well as the Krasnodar Krai and Chuvashia.

Restrictions in major cities

In the Russian capital, this year’s parade will take place without military equipment – the first time this has happened since 2007. St Petersburg has also decided not to display armoured vehicles.

A number of regions have introduced additional restrictions, including the cancellation of fireworks and disruptions to internet access on the days of the events.

The ‘Immortal Regiment’ format

The “Immortal Regiment” event has been moved online in most regions of the Russian Federation.

This approach has been used before, but it is now becoming the main way the event is held.

Reasons for the restrictions

Massive changes to the format of the celebrations began to be introduced in 2022 following the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine.

Prior to this, similar measures were only implemented during the coronavirus pandemic.

What the data is based on

Information on the restrictions introduced is based on statements by regional authorities and reports from official Russian media as of 6 May 2026.

We would like to remind you that Moscow intends to hold the 9 May celebrations under strict restrictions. Internet disruptions are planned, and ATMs may be taken out of service and airports closed, due to security measures related to the parade.

It should be noted that the military parade in Moscow on 9 May will take place without the usual display of armoured vehicles – only marching military units will be present on Red Square.
