The entire leadership of the Kyiv Patrol Police has been suspended following the terrorist attack in the capital, says Interior Minister Klymenko
Following the terrorist attack in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, the entire chain of command of the city’s Patrol Police Department has been suspended from their posts. This was announced by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko during a meeting with journalists.
According to him, the personnel decisions were taken following the results of an internal investigation. Officials ranging from platoon commanders to the head of the Kyiv Patrol Police Department have been suspended from their duties.
The minister noted that this list may not be final. Further decisions will be taken by the leadership of the National Police.
Ihor Klymenko emphasised the need for changes in personnel training. In particular, he demands that only officers with combat experience be appointed to deputy positions responsible for professional training.
It is also planned that patrol officers will undergo regular training at training grounds. Military personnel who took part in combat operations as part of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service will be involved in the training.
In addition, veterans will be offered the opportunity to join police training programmes following their demobilisation.
These staffing decisions were taken following the incident on 18 April, which caused a public outcry. Following the incident, two officers from the Patrol Police Department in Kyiv were charged with inaction during the terrorist attack. The head of the Patrol Police Department, Yevhen Zhukov, submitted his resignation.
As reported by ThePublic, Oleksandr Fatsievych will temporarily head the patrol police following the events in Kyiv.
ThePublic has analysed how the patrol police force has developed and why the reform, which began with a high level of public trust, has found itself at the centre of the biggest scandal in its entire history.
