An artillery shell factory burns in Orsk, Russia
A large-scale fire broke out at a Rostec enterprise after an explosion

A fire broke out in the city of Orsk, Orenburg region of the Russian Federation, at a local mechanical plant, which is one of the key producers of artillery shells for the Russian army. This was reported by Russian telegram channels that geolocated video and photos from the scene.

The company is part of the Technodynamics division of the state concern Rostec. According to the company, the plant produces more than half of all artillery shells of certain calibres in Russia, as well as components for multiple launch rocket systems.

Local residents were the first to report a massive fire and a possible explosion that preceded the fire. Later, the Russian Emergencies Ministry confirmed the incident, but without specifying which company was on fire. According to them, the fire is being extinguished by 29 rescuers and 9 pieces of equipment, there are no casualties and no injuries, and the technological process is allegedly not disrupted.

The cause of the fire has not been officially announced. The head of Orsk, Artem Vorobyov, did not comment on the incident. The fire at the defence plant is yet another incident in the Russian military-industrial complex amid the ongoing war against Ukraine.
