The Defence Forces are launching an IT division: over 2,000 vacancies have been advertised
This was announced by Serhiy Beskrestnov. The launch of the initiative and the opening of vacancies have been officially confirmed by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Serhiy Beskrestnov explained that the essence of the reform lies in the presence of IT specialists within the military system – where tasks are formulated and decisions are made. According to him, modern warfare depends directly on the speed of obtaining data and converting it into decisions.
The Ministry of Defence describes this logic as a systemic IT vertical, which is intended to ensure the rapid implementation of digital products and services directly within the military. Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that modern warfare is not just about weapons, but also about data and the speed of decision-making, which provide a technological advantage on the battlefield.
The initiative’s official website states that the IT vertical is intended to gather the actual needs of units, coordinate the launch and scaling of digital solutions, formulate requirements for new products, and develop an IT culture within the armed forces. The project’s stated aim is to secure an asymmetric advantage for the Ukrainian armed forces through a digital breakthrough in thinking, processes and technologies.
Who they are looking for and how to get involved
The Ministry of Defence reports that the IT vertical is seeking heads of digital transformation units, project managers, data analysts, business analysts, product support specialists and documentation specialists. It is these roles that will be responsible for the implementation and development of digital solutions directly within the units.
Both serving military personnel and civilian specialists can apply. For civilians, entry into the military is via mobilisation or a contract. The project website also states that if the position is an officer role and the candidate does not yet hold an officer rank, they may be awarded the initial rank of “second lieutenant” upon appointment.
Selection takes place via a special Ministry of Defence website: the candidate selects a relevant position, submits a CV or completes a form, after which they undergo an HR interview, a technical interview with subject-matter experts, and a final interview with a manager.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Defence is preparing changes to the mobilisation process, decisions regarding the Special Forces, as well as specific arrangements for assault troops and infantrymen — concerning terms of service and pay.
