Ukraine and Finland will jointly develop a distributed generation network
This was announced by Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal.
During a meeting with his Finnish counterpart Petteri Orpo, JSC Ukrnafta and technology giant Wärtsilä signed an agreement on the supply of equipment for gas piston units.
The project will be implemented in phases with the support of the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund (FUIF).
At the initial stage, a €80 million loan from the EBRD backed by state guarantees has already been secured, and procurement procedures are currently underway. The next steps involve scaling up the programme and installing new power stations across the country to strengthen regional energy security.
“Together with the FUIF investment fund and Ukrnafta, we are implementing a phased programme to roll out gas-piston distributed generation. These projects aim to urgently strengthen the energy resilience of our communities, stabilise the country’s overall power grid and ensure power supply to critical infrastructure facilities,” emphasised Denys Shmyhal.
