On the morning of 29 April, a unit of the Ukrainian Navy struck the MARQUISE, a vessel subject to sanctions. The strike was carried out by two unmanned naval craft.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 29 April a Ukrainian Navy unit struck the Cameroonian-flagged tanker MARQUISE using two MBEK kamikaze drones.

The vessel was unladen; its deadweight tonnage exceeds 37,000 tonnes. At the time of the strike, the tanker was adrift approximately 210 kilometres south-east of Tuapse in the Russian Federation without its Automatic Identification System (AIS) signal activated.

The General Staff noted that the vessel was likely awaiting loading at sea from another ship.

The strike hit the stern, specifically the area of the propeller-rudder assembly and the engine room. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.

The tanker MARQUISE is subject to sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, New Zealand and Canada. According to the military, it was used for the illegal transport of petroleum products.
