The Russian combined attack on 2 June caused fires and destruction in the capital. The fire destroyed a building and cars at a showroom for Zeekr, a premium Chinese electric car brand.

This was reported by the State Emergency Service.

Local authorities had previously reported on this fire, and the State Emergency Service subsequently released footage showing the extent of the damage.

The Zeekr brand: what is known about it

This is a relatively new premium electric car brand, created in 2021 by the Chinese automotive giant Geely Holding Group (which also owns well-known European brands such as Volvo, Polestar and Lotus).

The brand was conceived as a direct competitor to Tesla and other premium electric cars, combining modern technology, a high level of safety and futuristic design.

The name Zeekr is derived from Generation Z and the term ‘geek’ (computer enthusiast), emphasising its focus on modern digital technologies.

As a reminder, at least four people were killed and a further 58 injured, including three children, as a result of strikes on Kyiv last night. Four people were killed.

Massive shelling of Ukraine on 2 June: what is known

On the night of 2 June, Russian forces launched a massive bombardment of Ukraine. Enemy strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and other cities. But the capital bore the brunt of the attack.

The worst damage was in the Podilskyi district – a Russian missile struck near a nine-storey building, causing the upper floors to collapse. A fire also broke out on the premises of an educational institution. In seven other districts, residential buildings, petrol stations and a business centre were damaged.

In total, Russia launched 656 drones and 73 missiles at Ukraine overnight. Air defence forces intercepted 40 missiles and 602 drones respectively.
