Will every second drone be a jet? Syrsky reveals Russia’s plans
This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
What is happening with small-scale air defence
Most of the ‘Shaheds’ and ‘Geraniums’ shot down at present are the result of the work of Ukrainian interceptor drones. According to Syrskyi, in May alone they shot down over 3,500 enemy drones across three layers of air defence.
The most effective of these is the second echelon. The Unmanned Systems Forces are responsible for this: over 1,200 drones destroyed in May alone.
Army aviation destroyed over 440 Russian drones of various types in May. Helicopters are being equipped with new detection and targeting systems, as well as missile armament – and are already showing results.
A new challenge: jet-powered drones
Russia is changing its tactics. The enemy is increasing the number of drones, improving their quality and plans to significantly increase the proportion of jet-powered strike drones.
“The aggressor plans to increase the proportion of jet-powered strike drones to 50%. This presents us with new challenges that require a timely response,” said Syrskyi.
Following a meeting on countering enemy UAVs, he set out key priorities for the coming period.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Russia needs to “quickly end” the war against Ukraine, as the country’s economy cannot withstand a prolonged continuation of the “special military operation”.
