Drones flew from Russian territory into Latvia and Estonia
Latvia has recorded an incursion by a foreign drone into its airspace. The Ministry of Defence reported that the drone entered from Russian territory. This was reported by The Public, citing Delfi.lv and ERR.ee.
Early warning systems detected a sound resembling an explosion in the Krāslava district. Units from the National Armed Forces, the State Police and the State Border Guard Service are operating at the scene. Debris from the drone has been found.
According to the ministry, no one was injured and no damage to civilian infrastructure has been reported. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated. The Ministry of Defence noted that there is no further threat to the safety of the civilian population or to airspace.
Latvian Defence Minister Andris Spruds announced the suspension of his working visit to Ukraine in connection with the incident.
In Estonia, a drone that had strayed from Russian airspace crashed into the chimney of a power station in Auvere on the night of 25 March. The incident occurred at 03:43.
According to law enforcement officials, no one was injured as a result of the incident. Bomb disposal experts from the rescue service are working at the scene, and the Security Police Department is conducting an investigation.
Attorney General Astrid Asi stated that, based on the available information, the drone was not targeting Estonia, and the exact circumstances are being established.
Enefit Power stated that the power station did not sustain significant damage and the incident did not affect the country’s power grid.
