Zelenskyy on the threat of an offensive from Belarus: the Russians have many sick people and far-fetched ideas
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The Russians have plenty of crazy and far-fetched ideas, and I really don’t want Belarus to get dragged into them.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, made this statement to journalists.

“As for the threat of an attack from Belarus, look. The Russians have a lot of different crazy and fantastical ideas,” said the president.

Therefore, he said, he very much hopes that Belarus will not be drawn into these fantastical ideas, lest they turn into a terrible reality.

The threat from Belarus

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that Russia would once again attempt to drag Belarus into a direct war against Ukraine.

According to intelligence reports, infrastructure preparations are underway within the republic – Belarusians are building roads to the Ukrainian border and setting up artillery positions, which may indicate preparations for a future escalation.

Furthermore, commenting on Minsk’s actions, the president warned the regime of Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko against making mistakes.

Experts explained that Zelenskyy alluded to a “Venezuelan scenario” for Lukashenko, reminding him of the inevitability of losing power and the consequences of directly entering the conflict on the side of the Russian Federation.

The situation is also being exacerbated by internal decisions within Belarus. In particular, Lukashenko signed a decree on the conscription of reserve officers into the Armed Forces and border services.

This move is officially explained as “routine measures”, yet it comes against the backdrop of the dictator’s constant calls for his officials to “mobilise” and prepare for difficult times.

The Centre for Strategic and Defence Studies noted that Russia is preparing Belarus for a possible escalation, though there is currently no threat of a renewed invasion from the north. The defence forces are in full control of the situation at the border.

At the same time, Lukashenko is threatening to use his entire arsenal of defence, including nuclear weapons, if neighbouring states “attack” his country.
