Zelensky appointed Shapovalov as Commander of the Ground Forces
The President appointed Gennadiy Shapovalov as the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The corresponding decree No. 412/2025 was published on the head of state's website.

"To appoint Gennadiy Mykolayovych Shapovalov as Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," - the document states.

According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia noted, that Gennadiy Shapovalov is a Brigadier General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has risen through all ranks of military service from commander of a tank platoon to commander of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakov Handzyuk.

From April 16, 2024, to February 4, 2025 - Commander of the troops of the Operational Command "South".

In 2022 - Head of the Main Directorate of Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On June 20, 2023, he became a member of the Commission on the Coordination of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic Integration. Since spring 2024 - Commander of the Operational-Strategic Group of Troops (OSUT) "Tavria".

On April 16, 2024, Shapovalov was appointed Commander of the troops of the Operational Command "South", and was dismissed on February 4, 2025.
