Zelenskyy is expecting a visit from Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Kyiv
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed the hope that US presidential representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Kyiv within the next two weeks.
The head of state made this statement in an interview with CBS News.
Responding to a question about recent contacts with US presidential representatives on peace issues and the possibility of their visit to Ukraine, Zelenskyy noted that the Ukrainian side is counting on their arrival.
“Yes, we are counting on them coming to Kyiv. I hope they will be able to come here in two weeks’ time. But at least I have received such a message from my negotiating team; they told me they had been in contact with Steve and Jared, and they said they were ready to come to Ukraine and talk, if, of course, if... And today that ‘if’ means the Middle East,” said Zelenskyy.
The President emphasised that it is important for Ukrainians to see the American negotiating team in Ukraine.
According to him, representatives of the American side have not yet visited Ukraine. Zelenskyy expressed his conviction that it would be useful for them to meet people and understand how the country lives under wartime conditions.
“They have never been here. I think this is important not only for us. It is useful for them to understand, to see the people, that their lives go on, but we want to stop this war. This must stop the Russian Federation. They have been to Moscow several times. I have said this before: if they want to go to Moscow this time, they must come to Kyiv first, and then go to Moscow. I think that would be useful,” said the President of Ukraine.
