Church holiday on 7 June

According to the new church calendar, Orthodox believers commemorate the martyr Theodotus of Ancyra on 7 June. Saint Theodotus is known for his aid to Christians who were persecuted for their faith. He provided people with shelter, food and support, and also held services in his home. During the persecutions, Theodotus visited imprisoned Christians and, risking his own life, helped to bury those who had died for their beliefs. According to tradition, he buried seven female martyrs whose bodies had been thrown into the river. After this, Theodotus was arrested. He refused to renounce the Christian faith and to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods, for which he was tortured and executed. In Christian tradition, the martyr Theodotus is regarded as a symbol of steadfastness, mercy and devotion to his faith.
