This was reported by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident took place on 6 June in the village of Vyzhenka, Vyzhnytsia district. A group of 55 children from the Kharkiv region were there on an organised holiday. During a walk, some of the children went onto a wooden suspension bridge over the Vyzhenka River. According to the investigation, more than 30 minors under the age of 15 were on the structure at the same time. The children were taking photographs when the bridge suddenly collapsed.
Six children were injured
After the fall, the injured children were taken to medical facilities in Chernivtsi. According to preliminary information from doctors, they have been diagnosed with injuries of varying severity. These include head injuries, concussions, fractures, bruises and haematomas. Medical staff are providing the children with the necessary care.
What the law enforcement agencies are investigating
Following the collapse of the bridge, the Vyzhnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal investigation into the failure to properly fulfil duties regarding the protection of children’s lives and health. Investigators must establish who was responsible for the children’s safety during their holiday, whether it was safe for so many people to be on the bridge at the same time, and what condition the structure was in. They will also examine the actions of those responsible for the maintenance and operation of the bridge.
