At the Krasnoilsk border crossing, border guards and customs officers foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of cigarettes into Romania. The tobacco products had been concealed in structural cavities within a goods trailer.

A Ukrainian national was travelling through the Krasnoilsk border crossing point to Romania in a lorry with a trailer. During the inspection, he claimed that he was not carrying any cargo.

During the inspection of the vehicle, border guards used a special scanning device, which detected that the structural cavities of the trailer had been filled. Following an additional check carried out jointly with customs officers, the suspicions were confirmed.

A total of 31,290 packets of cigarettes of various brands, without excise duty stamps, were found in the hiding places. The estimated value of the seized tobacco products is over 2 million hryvnias.

The lorry with the trailer used to transport the goods, as well as all the cigarettes found, were seized.
