A marine drone exploded in the port of Constanța; there were no casualties (VIDEO)
On the morning of 5 June, a marine drone was discovered at the civilian port of Constanța on the premises of the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Human Life at Sea (ARSVOM), according to G4media.
According to available information, the object was found at around 05:50 near berth No. 78. Following this, activities in the area were temporarily suspended to allow for inspections.
At around 10:30, the marine drone self-detonated. According to Romanian authorities, no one was injured as a result of the explosion.
Bogdan Toma, a spokesperson for the Department of Emergency Situations, stated that the drone exploded on its own, without a controlled detonation.
After the object was discovered, access to the port area was restricted. Vehicles were checked by the Border Police. Several people were also evacuated.
The Romanian Ministry of National Defence stated that the device found is not part of the Romanian army’s equipment and was not used during recent exercises in the Black Sea region.
The ministry noted that the maritime drone belongs to a type of device used during the war in Ukraine.
At the time of the explosion, the area was already being secured by personnel from the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Coast Guard and the Ministry of National Defence, who were conducting an assessment and implementing security measures.
According to Romanian sources, the drone was green in colour and equipped with antennas. It was stopped by anti-pollution barriers installed in the water.
The case is being investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanta Court of Appeal. The Romanian authorities have reported that the situation remains fluid, and further information will be released once the investigations are complete.
