Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill renaming Palm Beach International Airport in honour of US President Donald Trump.

This is reported by Reuters.

This decision follows on from Florida’s plan last year to transfer property in central Miami for the construction of the Trump Presidential Library.

However, for it to take effect, approval from the Federal Aviation Administration is required — it must update the data in navigation systems and maps, after which the airport’s signage will be changed. Separately, Congressman Brian Mast has proposed changing the airport’s code from PBI to DJT — after Trump’s initials.

Last week, the US Treasury Department announced that, to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence, the new banknotes will feature the signature of the incumbent president — Donald Trump — for the first time in history. The US has also recently approved a commemorative gold coin featuring the president to mark the country’s 250th anniversary. On it, Trump is depicted standing at a table with his fists clenched.

There are also plans to name a new class of US Navy warships, a visa programme for wealthy foreigners, a government website for prescription medicines and federal savings accounts for children after the current US president.
