The AMCU has called on mobile operators to stop manipulating ‘unlimited’ internet packages
According to the agency’s assessment, advertising that promises no restrictions misleads consumers, as in reality, once a certain amount of data has been used, connection speeds drop significantly.
This was reported by the committee’s press service, noting that such restrictions make full use of online services practically impossible.
The committee found that operators conceal the actual terms of service provision by placing information about limits in small print or in hard-to-access reference materials.
Due to this approach, subscribers do not receive clear information when choosing a tariff and assume there are no actual speed restrictions. The AMCU emphasises that concealing such essential service characteristics constitutes a violation that prevents consumers from making informed decisions.
Operators must bring their communications into line with the law so that the term ‘unlimited’ does not contradict the technical realities of tariff plans. If internet speeds are reduced after a certain gigabyte limit has been reached, this information must be communicated to customers in an accessible and understandable manner. The authority is currently expecting companies to rectify the situation regarding the promotion of services across all communication channels.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that the AMCU found no evidence of a monopoly or collusion in the fuel market due to rising prices.
