Argentina may launch ‘golden passports’: the FT has outlined the possible conditions
The Argentine authorities are hoping to raise additional funds to service the national debt.
Argentina is preparing a citizenship-by-investment programme for foreigners. According to the Financial Times, the authorities are considering two options for participation: a donation of around 500,000 dollars or the purchase of government bonds worth 1 million dollars.

This is according to the Financial Times.

According to the FT, the programme has not yet been finalised, and its terms are still subject to change.

Two main options are currently under discussion: a non-refundable contribution of around $500,000 or an investment of $1 million in Argentine government bonds.

If the programme goes ahead, Argentina will become one of the world’s largest countries to offer so-called ‘golden passports’ in exchange for investment.

Why does Argentina need such a programme?

According to the FT, the Argentine authorities hope to raise additional funds to service the national debt.

Argentine citizenship may be attractive to investors, as an Argentine passport allows visa-free entry to nearly 170 countries.

How does this relate to migration policy?

Following the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Argentina became one of the destinations for Russian emigrants.

In 2025, the country tightened its immigration legislation. According to the FT, this was linked, in particular, to the preparation of a new investment programme for obtaining citizenship.
