Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Qatar and kept their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup play-offs alive
The Bosnia and Herzegovina national team defeated Qatar in their third Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match at Lumen Field in Seattle, USA, ended 3–1.
The Bosnians opened the scoring in the 29th minute. The goal was scored by Kerim Alaybegović.
Just five minutes later, the European side extended their lead. Qatar’s goalkeeper, Mahmoud Abunada, scored an own goal.
Before half-time, the Qataris pulled one back. In the 42nd minute, Hassan Al-Haydos found the net.
In the second half, Bosnia and Herzegovina restored their two-goal lead. Ermin Mahmić scored in the 80th minute.
In the other Group B match of the third round, Switzerland beat Canada 2–1.
At the end of the group stage, Switzerland finished top with 7 points and progressed to the play-offs. Canada finished second with 4 points and also secured their place in the round of 32.
Bosnia and Herzegovina also collected 4 points and finished third. The team still has a good chance of reaching the play-offs, but to do so they must be among the top eight third-placed teams.
Qatar, with one point, finished the tournament bottom of the group and have been eliminated from the World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July in the USA, Mexico and Canada. This is the first tournament of this format to feature 48 national teams.
The teams are divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group, plus the eight best third-placed teams, advance to the round of 16.
