Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed victory at the ‘Golden Stage’ of the Continental Tour in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, at the Boris Hantecović Memorial Tournament.

This was reported by ‘Suspilne Sport’.

Two Ukrainian athletes – Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryna Herashchenko – competed in Zagreb, and their rivals were the 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Eleanor Patterson, the 2025 World Championships bronze medallist Angelina Topić and Montenegro’s record-holder Maria Vuković.

Geraschenko was the first of the Ukrainian athletes to start the competition — she cleared 1.75 metres, and then 1.85 metres. Maguchikh cleared 1.90 metres on her first attempt, whilst Gerashchenko failed on her first attempt at this height and was unable to clear it.

Maguchikh skipped the 1.93-metre height, whilst Patterson, Topić, Vuković and the Guinean high jumper Fatoumata Balli cleared it, with Balli setting a new national record and beating her personal best by 1 cm.

Maguchich then cleared 1.95 metres, and on her third attempt, 1.97 metres. Her rival Topič failed to clear 1.99 metres, whilst Maguchikh attempted 2.01 metres three times but was unable to clear it, ultimately taking the gold.

“I cleared 1.97 m. I think it was a good attempt. I know I can jump higher. It’s a really great competition. I hope to come back here next year,” she said.

It’s worth noting that the day before, Maguchikh won the ‘gold’ stage of the Continental Tour in Hengelo, the Netherlands, clearing a height of 1.94 metres.
