Morocco beat Haiti to reach the play-offs for the 2026 World Cup
The Moroccan national team defeated Haiti in their third Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, USA, ended in a 4–2 victory for Morocco.
Haiti managed to open the scoring as early as the 10th minute. Following a cross from the right flank by Jean-Kevin Duvernay, Joseph struck the ball with his heel, and it found its way into Yassine Bounou’s net. The goal was later recorded as an own goal by the Moroccan goalkeeper.
The Moroccans equalised in the 39th minute thanks to a precise strike from Achraf Hakimi. However, just four minutes later, Haiti regained the lead. Wilson Isidore scored following a pass from Duvernay.
Before half-time, Morocco levelled the score for the second time. In the 45th minute, Ismael Saibari finished off a cross from Achraf Hakimi down the right flank.
In the second half, the Moroccans managed to turn the game in their favour. In the 78th minute, Soufyan Rahimi put his team ahead for the first time.
Jassim Yassin sealed the victory. In the 89th minute, he finished off a cross from Rahimi to set the final score.
In the other Group C match, Brazil comfortably beat Scotland 3–0.
At the end of the group stage, Brazil finished top of the group with 7 points. Morocco also picked up 7 points and progressed to the play-offs in second place.
Scotland finished the group stage in third place with 3 points and still have a chance of reaching the play-offs via the third-placed teams’ ranking. Haiti failed to pick up any points and have been eliminated from the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup is being held in the USA, Mexico and Canada from 11 June to 19 July. For the first time, 48 national teams are taking part in the tournament. The teams are divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group, as well as the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16.
