Cristiano Ronaldo liked a video criticising FIFA over Argentina
Cristiano Ronaldo attracted attention with his reaction to the video
Cristiano Ronaldo attracted attention with his reaction to a video in which the creators accused FIFA of allegedly favouring the Argentina national team at the 2026 World Cup. However, the Portuguese footballer himself has not publicly commented on these allegations.

Complex reports on the footballer’s reaction, citing a post on Instagram.

Social media users noticed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s official account was among those who liked a video from the Spanish television programme Espejo Público.

In the clip, journalist Pilar Rodríguez Losantos criticised the refereeing at the World Cup and claimed that Argentina should have been knocked out of the tournament much earlier.

She also accused FIFA of favouring the Argentine national team and stated that she feared the organisation’s president, Gianni Infantino, more than the team itself.

No evidence of deliberate favouritism towards Argentina was presented in the video. The statements made represent the views of the programme’s participants, not established facts.

What Ronaldo actually said

The Portuguese striker did not publish his own post about the refereeing, did not accuse FIFA of corruption, and did not make an official statement in support of the video’s creators.

His only recorded reaction was to ‘like’ the post on Instagram. It is therefore incorrect to claim that Ronaldo directly accused FIFA of collusion or bias.

Liking a post can be interpreted as an interest in or approval of its content; however, it is impossible to reliably establish the footballer’s motive without his explanation.

How the World Cup ended

The Argentina national team reached the final of the 2026 World Cup, where they faced Spain on 19 July. Spain won 1–0 after extra time and became world champions for the second time in their history.

The winning goal was scored by Ferran Torres. The official result of the match has been published on the FIFA website.

Argentina were unable to defend the title they won at the 2022 World Cup. After the final, Lionel Messi congratulated Spain on their victory and thanked the fans for their support.

How Portugal fared

For the Portuguese national team, the tournament ended at the round of 16. Ronaldo’s side also lost to Spain 0–1.

The only goal, scored late in the match, was netted by Mikel Merino. This World Cup was the sixth in the career of the 41-year-old Ronaldo.

Following the defeat, the Portuguese star did not attribute his team’s elimination to refereeing decisions or FIFA’s actions. Reports of his views on Argentina’s performance only emerged after users noticed he had liked a controversial video.
