The winners of the individual awards at the 2026 World Championships have been decided
Following the final of the 2026 World Cup, in which Spain beat Argentina 1–0 in extra time, the tournament’s award ceremony took place. The Spanish team were presented with the World Cup trophy, and individual awards were also handed out to the tournament’s best players.
Midfielder and Spain captain Rodri was named the World Cup’s best player. Over the course of the tournament, he made 799 passes and helped his team finish the tournament having conceded just one goal.
The ‘Golden Boot’, awarded to the tournament’s top scorer, went to France forward Kylian Mbappé. He scored 10 goals at the World Cup, finishing two goals ahead of his nearest rival, Lionel Messi.
Mbappé also retained his status as the all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup history. He has scored 22 goals at World Cups, whilst Lionel Messi has 21.
Lionel Messi was awarded the ‘Silver Ball’, whilst the ‘Bronze Ball’ went to Kylian Mbappé. Lionel Messi won the ‘Silver Boot’, whilst Jude Bellingham received the ‘Bronze Boot’.
The ‘Golden Glove’ award was presented to Spain’s goalkeeper, Unai Simón. Spain’s defender Pau Cubarsi was named the tournament’s best young player. The Fair Play trophy went to the Netherlands.
England claimed the World Cup bronze medal after defeating France 6–4 in the third-place play-off.
