Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated that he may initiate the termination of emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine. This is linked to the demand to resume oil supplies to Slovakia.

This was reported by The Public, citing a statement by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on social media.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he would ask the state-owned company SEPS to stop emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil supplies to Slovakia are not resumed by Monday, 23 February.

According to him, such a decision may be made if oil supplies are not resumed. Fico also accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of causing economic damage to Slovakia.

The Slovak Prime Minister said that the losses amount to about €500 million and are related to the suspension of gas supplies to the country, as well as the suspension of oil supplies.

Fico noted that in January 2026 alone, emergency electricity supplies from Slovakia were needed to stabilise the Ukrainian power system twice as much as in the whole of 2025.

He also stressed that Slovakia could stop these supplies if his demand to resume oil supplies was not met.
