Finland has seized Russian assets worth almost €4 million
This is reported by Yle.
Previously, the Agency mainly confiscated property belonging to Russia, but this year’s confiscations have been in the form of cash.It follows from the authorities’ decision that the sum of approximately €3.7 million, which has been subject to provisional confiscation, relates to an EU cross-border cooperation programme. Finland participated in this programme alongside Russia several years ago. The programme was designed to support development in the border regions between the countries.
According to the agency’s explanation, Russia managed to pay its share of the €3.7 million before the war began.
The money was transferred to the Ministry of Labour and Economic Development, but the project was discontinued. Consequently, the funds paid by Russia remained on the ministry’s books. The confiscation order remains in force until further notice. Confiscation ensures that the owner cannot sell or transfer their property.
Since 2024, the Debt Collection Agency has confiscated Russian property worth at least €40 million. The claim was filed by the Ukrainian state-owned energy company Naftogaz and its subsidiaries. The confiscation is linked to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
