In the Lviv region, a 24-year-old man caused a fatal road accident and confessed to murdering his mother — police

The incident took place today, 24 June, at around 07:10 on Hlynska Street in the town of Pustomyty, near Lviv.
Preliminary investigations by the police have established that a patrol car crew spotted an Audi Q5 without a front number plate. When the officers switched on their flashing lights and turned round to stop the driver, he sped off towards the exit from Lviv, colliding with a police vehicle in the process. He subsequently lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a Volkswagen.
The impact threw the Volkswagen into the garden of a private house, where it overturned. As a result of the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen, a resident of the Lviv region, died at the scene from his injuries.
The driver of the Audi, a 24-year-old resident of Lviv, was detained by patrol police officers. The man also stated that he had killed his mother. The woman’s death was confirmed: she was found in her flat with stab wounds.
Investigators from the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 and Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is ongoing.
