Israel has set up a secret outpost in Iraq
Ukrinform reports this, citing The Wall Street Journal.
Why was the outpost established?
According to the publication’s sources, the base was built shortly before the start of hostilities against Iran. Israeli special forces were stationed at the outpost, and the facility itself was used as a logistics centre for aviation. Search and rescue teams were also stationed there in case of aircraft loss or the need to evacuate pilots.
The Iraqi military almost discovered the base
As the WSJ notes, the secret facility was nearly exposed in early March. Iraqi state media reported that a local shepherd had noticed suspicious activity in the desert, including helicopter flights. Following this, the Iraqi military set out to investigate the area. According to sources, Israeli forces prevented the military from approaching the outpost and carried out air strikes.
Baghdad suspected the US
Iraq later lodged a complaint with the United Nations, alleging strikes by foreign forces. In Baghdad, it was speculated that the United States might have been involved in the attack. At the same time, WSJ sources claim that the US did not take part in the operation.
